Regional Champions

November 27, 2017

The football team overcame a slow start on Friday with an explosive 35-point second quarter to take home the Regional title for just the second time in school history. The Warriors are now in the final four and will face The Geneva School of Boerne on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Elgin, TX. Both teams will enter the game with impressive 11-1 records. The Warriors lone loss of the season came to an undefeated Austin Regents team the week after Hurricane Harvey and Austin Regents is still undefeated and in the TAPPS Division II Final Four.

John Ethan Baldwin again anchored the defense and led in tackles to go along with an interception that resulted in one of the five second quarter touchdowns. The last touchdown of the half would have been scored by Tyler Landua on an interception, but a penalty after the interception negated the touchdown. However, Josh Holl connected with Joseph Carbone for a spectacular 34-yard catch to end the half and put the game out of reach for Brentwood.

Brentwood found some traction on the ground early on, but the defense tightened up in large part because of a great night in the middle by Landon Paulsen with nine tackles and a tackle for loss. Daniel Macune recorded two tackles for loss on the night. The defense forced two turnovers and gave up just 227 yards and only 10 first downs.

The offense put up nearly 500 yards in the 56-14 victory. Christian Fleischhauer found the end zone three times early on and even passed for a touchdown in the second half. The trick play resulted in a 61 yard strike to Reid Chapman. Barbisch, Landrum and Andrus all scored for the Warriors. In total six players found the end zone. It is the third straight game where the Warriors have had six different athletes score touchdowns.
